Dhubri: Police on Tuesday arrested four persons — a teacher accused of sexually harassing a Class VI student and three others who allegedly helped him evade arrest. Among those arrested was the principal of the government school where the girl studied.
Incident Details
The main accused, a Hindi teacher at the school, allegedly attempted to molest the student inside the campus. The girl managed to free herself and ran home in tears, narrating the incident to her parents.
Legal Action
Following the disclosure, the family filed a complaint, based on which police registered an FIR. Damadar Roy, president of the Dhubri district unit of the Undivided Goalpara District AKRSU, told TOI that the organisation demanded the teacher’s immediate expulsion and the arrest of those who tried to suppress the matter.
“We not only demand the expulsion of the teacher but also the arrest of those who attempted to cover up this heinous act in the temple of education,” Roy said.
Police Confirmation
Dhubri additional superintendent of police Dibyjyoti Talukdar confirmed the arrest of four persons. “The other two were arrested from the place where the main accused had taken shelter to evade arrest and public outrage,” Talukdar added.
All four are being interrogated, police said.
