Major Drug Bust in Dindigul: Police Seize 11kg Ganja, Arrest Three Smugglers

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Dindigul district police have successfully dismantled a drug racket operating on Bypass Road. The operation, conducted on Friday, led to the arrest of three individuals and the confiscation of a substantial quantity of ganja along with vehicles used for illicit activities.

Coordinated Police Action Based on Intelligence Tip

Acting on a credible tip-off regarding ongoing drug smuggling activities, Superintendent of Police A. Pradeep swiftly mobilized a specialized team. This team was placed under the direct supervision of Batlagundu Inspector Gauthaman, who orchestrated intensive patrols along the strategic Bypass Road area in Dindigul district.

During meticulous searches conducted by the patrolling units, police officers intercepted the suspects in the act of selling the contraband. The individuals apprehended were identified as Subash, aged 40, Jyothi, aged 43, and Manoj Kumar, aged 28, all residents of Dindigul.

Substantial Seizure of Contraband and Vehicles

The police operation resulted in the seizure of a total of 11 kilograms of ganja, highlighting the scale of the illegal trade. Additionally, law enforcement authorities confiscated two lorries and an auto-rickshaw that were being utilized by the accused for the transportation and distribution of the narcotics.

This seizure underscores the persistent efforts by Tamil Nadu police to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Following their arrest, the three accused were promptly produced before a local court. The judicial magistrate remanded them to judicial custody, pending further legal proceedings. Police have registered a formal case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The investigation is actively ongoing, with authorities probing deeper into the supply chain and potential connections to larger drug networks. This bust is part of a broader initiative to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in Dindigul and surrounding areas.
