A day after a brutal double murder at Tara Apartments in south Delhi, residents of the upscale complex remained in a state of profound shock and disbelief. With police personnel stationed outside the homes of the two families involved, the atmosphere in the society bore a starkly different look on Saturday—one that residents had never anticipated witnessing in their supposedly secure neighborhood.
Neighbors Express Disbelief Over Violent Incident
Requesting anonymity, a neighbor who lives in the building adjacent to the Soods and opposite the Siddiquis expressed deep concern. "I moved here recently because this society is widely perceived as safe and secure. Most residents are well-established, respectable professionals, and such violence is completely unexpected," the neighbor stated. Other residents echoed this sentiment, noting that neighborhood disputes and heated arguments were historically uncommon in this locality, making the incident all the more jarring.
Eyewitness Accounts from Long-Time Guards
Ghanshyam, a 53-year-old security guard who has worked at Tara Apartments for 13 years, described the horrifying scene. "I have never seen anything like this in all my years here. I heard people shouting and rushed to the spot, only to find Karanji lying unconscious with a deep stab wound on the back of his head. His father was also bleeding profusely and was being brought down by his nephew," Ghanshyam recounted. Another guard added that Rakesh was seated nearby until he was transported to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The Soods reside in block O, while the Siddiquis live in block F, which is situated diagonally opposite. The buildings in the society are arranged around a central garden area with benches, with cars parked along the periphery. The violent attack occurred on the open staircase leading to the Soods’ residence, just a few feet above ground level. On Saturday, the spot was heavily guarded by police officers, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Residents Grapple with Security Concerns
A woman standing outside the park with her child voiced her fears. "We have lived here for many years and never imagined something so horrific could happen. If there was a dispute between the families, this incident tragically shows how personal conflicts can spiral out of control with devastating consequences," she said. A 55-year-old resident who knows the Soods closely raised poignant questions about safety. "You choose a gated society specifically for a sense of security and peace of mind. But if something like this happens from within the community itself, who do we hold responsible? It shakes our fundamental trust," the resident lamented.
Security Infrastructure and Complex Details
Located in south Delhi, adjacent to CR Park, Greater Kailash II, and Kalkaji, the apartment complex on Alaknanda Road features six gates, though only two—gates 4 and 5—are currently operational. Gate 6 is occasionally opened for vehicle access. Security guards are deployed at each of these gates, with barriers in place for incoming vehicles to regulate entry and exit.
The complex, which comprises approximately 160 flats, is divided into several wings, with each building designated as a block. A guard who has worked there for several decades highlighted the surveillance measures. "CCTV cameras are installed in every nook and corner here by Delhi Police. They are all fully functional and accessible for monitoring purposes," the guard assured. Several CCTV cameras were also observed near the crime scene, which could potentially aid the ongoing police investigation.
