In a heartbreaking double tragedy that has shaken the community, a newlywed man and his wife's brother-in-law have died by suicide in Davanagere, Karnataka, following the wife's elopement with her lover. The incident, which unfolded over several days, highlights deep-seated family conflicts and emotional distress.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The deceased have been identified as Harish, a 30-year-old resident of Gummanur village, and Rudresh, 36, from Anekonda. Harish had married Saraswati of Hulikatte village just three months ago, in what was supposed to be a joyous union. However, on January 23, Saraswati eloped with her lover, Kumar, leaving Harish devastated and alone.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Suicides

Despite the family managing to trace Saraswati on January 25, the emotional turmoil proved too much for Harish. Overwhelmed by distress, he hanged himself on Monday. In a tragic turn of events, upon hearing about Harish's death, Saraswati's brother-in-law, Rudresh, consumed poison and succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital on Tuesday.

Suicide Note and Allegations

A suicide note recovered from Harish revealed the depth of his anguish. In it, he stated that his wife had not only eloped but also falsely accused him of harassment. He further alleged that Saraswati's relatives had threatened him, compounding his misery. Harish explicitly named Saraswati, her parents, and her uncle in the note, demanding that they face strict punishment for their actions.

Police Complaint and Investigation

Harish's father has filed a formal complaint with the authorities, adding another layer to the case. He alleged that Kumar, the lover with whom Saraswati eloped, had assaulted and threatened Harish, which ultimately drove him to take his own life. The complaint calls for legal action against Kumar as well as Saraswati's family members. In response, the Davanagere Rural police have registered a case and are actively investigating the matter to uncover the full circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe emotional and psychological impacts that family disputes and betrayal can have, leading to irreversible consequences. The local community is in mourning, and authorities are urging anyone in distress to seek help and support during such difficult times.
