Truck Driver Allegedly Murders Friend Over Lewd Remarks About Nieces in Roorkee
In a shocking incident in Roorkee, a truck driver has been accused of intentionally running over and killing his friend after a heated argument over lewd remarks made about his nieces. The accused fled the scene but was subsequently arrested by police on Thursday, bringing a grim end to a tragic dispute that escalated on the day of Holi.
Background of the Accused and Victim
The accused, identified as Rajeev (45), hails from Baghpat district and had been residing with his family in Ruhalki village under the Bhagwanpur police limits for several years. Rajeev owned and operated a truck as his primary source of livelihood, driving it himself to make ends meet.
During his time in the area, Rajeev developed a friendship with Rahul Kumar (40), who worked as a cook at a roadside eatery in Bhagwanpur. The two men frequently consumed alcohol together, and over time, Rahul began visiting Rajeev's home, where the relationship took a dark turn.
Escalation of Tensions Leading to the Crime
According to police reports, Rahul often made objectionable comments about Rajeev's nieces, which repeatedly caused friction between the friends. The situation reached a breaking point on March 4, coinciding with the Holi festival. On that day, Rajeev allegedly invited Rahul to the Bhagwanpur toll plaza, claiming his truck was parked there and suggesting they celebrate the festival together.
Rahul arrived at the location with food, and the two proceeded to drink alcohol and share a meal. However, during the drinking session, Rahul once again began making lewd remarks about Rajeev's nieces. Police stated that Rajeev initially objected to the comments, but when Rahul persisted, he asked him to exit the truck.
The Fatal Incident and Aftermath
As Rahul stepped out of the vehicle, Rajeev allegedly drove the truck over him, resulting in instant death at the spot. Following the incident, Rajeev fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of tragedy. The victim's wife filed a formal complaint at the Bhagwanpur police station on Wednesday, prompting an investigation.
SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar provided details on the arrest, stating, "We arrested Rajeev along with the truck. During questioning, he confessed to the crime, indicating that the act was intentional. A case of murder has been registered against him." The confession and evidence gathered led to the swift legal action, highlighting the severity of the offense.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The police have taken Rajeev into custody and seized the truck as part of the investigation. The case underscores the dangers of unchecked conflicts and the tragic consequences that can arise from personal disputes. Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances to ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case.
