Major Drug Kingpin Apprehended in Uttar Pradesh After Four-Year Fugitive Run
In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, the prime accused in a massive drug haul case, who had been absconding for more than four years, was finally arrested by the Parawada police in Uttar Pradesh. The arrested individual has been identified as Tahzeeb Alam, a native of Didauli village in the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.
The 2021 Cannabis Seizure and Investigation
Anakapalle district police chief Tuhin Sinha provided details of the original case. On June 8, 2021, Parawada police intercepted a container truck near the Lankelapalem locality, seizing approximately 3,000 kilograms of dry cannabis and arresting several individuals. The subsequent investigation revealed that Tahzeeb Alam was the mastermind behind this extensive cannabis trade operation.
Since the case was registered, Alam had been successfully evading arrest, leading authorities to issue a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him by the court. Inspector of Parawada, R Mallikarjuna Rao, along with his dedicated team, maintained persistent surveillance on the suspect's movements.
The Arrest Operation and Legal Proceedings
Upon receiving concrete intelligence about Alam's whereabouts, the police team swiftly traveled to Uttar Pradesh, apprehended the accused, and brought him back to Anakapalle. He was subsequently produced before the court for remand, marking the end of his lengthy evasion from justice.
Separate Case: 10-Year Sentence for Cannabis Transportation
In a related development within the same district, a court in Chodavaram of Anakapalle district has convicted and sentenced 32-year-old Korukonda Appala Patrudu, alias Raju, to ten years of rigorous imprisonment in a separate ganja case. The court also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.
Raju was originally arrested by Chodavaram police in July 2015 when he was caught transporting 175 kilograms of dry cannabis in a vehicle. The police seized both the contraband and the vehicle at that time. While Raju has been convicted, the police noted that another accused in this case, Killo Babu Rao, remains absconding and is still at large.
These cases highlight the ongoing efforts by Andhra Pradesh police to combat drug trafficking networks, with significant arrests and convictions demonstrating the legal consequences for such illicit activities.
