The accused has been identified as Saurabh Chaudhary, who is stationed at the sub-control room in Delhi's Haiderpur. According to police reports, the event unfolded around 9 pm on Monday in the Shalimar Garden Extension-2 market. Chaudhary, who was on his motorcycle, noticed a woman shopping. In a brazen move, he stopped his bike, pulled off her gold earring, and attempted to speed away from the spot.
However, his escape was short-lived. Alert residents and shopkeepers, hearing the victim's screams, immediately sprang into action. They chased down the fleeing constable, overpowered him after a brief scuffle, and took him to the nearby Shalimar Garden police station. Their vigilance ensured the accused was caught red-handed.
Confession and Troubling Background
During questioning at the police station, Saurabh Chaudhary confessed to the crime. Investigators revealed that he was drunk at the time of the incident. A resident of Bhajanpura in north Delhi, Chaudhary had joined the Delhi Police on compassionate grounds following his father's death, who was also a policeman.

"He told us that he was frustrated with his life and was drinking heavily. On Tuesday, while passing through Shalimar Garden, he impulsively snatched the woman's earrings," a senior police officer explained, detailing the motive behind the impulsive act.
