Drunk Driver Kills Boy in Pune, Injures Mother

A tragic accident in Pune's Khadakwasla area on Saturday evening claimed the life of a four-year-old boy and left his mother injured. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm when a compact SUV, driven by a man under the influence of alcohol, collided with the scooter on which the family was traveling.

Details of the Accident

The boy, identified as Yashraj Kamble, was riding pillion with his father Nilesh Kamble and mother. The father, who was driving the scooter, escaped without injuries. However, the mother sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The child succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Senior Inspector Atul Bhos of Nanded City police stated, “We have arrested the SUV driver, Amol Gegade (32), who hails from Shrigonda in Ahilyanagar and currently resides in Bhosari. He works with an industrial unit. A medical test confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.”

Driver's Intentions

According to police, Gegade and his friend were heading to Sinhagad Fort for an outing. Meanwhile, the Kamble family was on their way to a temple near Donje village to offer prayers. The collision occurred when Gegade lost control of his vehicle.

Another Accident in Same Area

In a separate incident on Friday night, a drunk car driver allegedly hit an autorickshaw and a motorcycle in the same Khadakwasla area. The autorickshaw driver, Ananta Kisan Jadhav (44) of Donje village, suffered serious injuries and has been hospitalized. The motorcycle rider sustained minor injuries.

Police have registered a case against the 46-year-old car driver from Bibvewadi and served him a notice to cooperate with the investigation. The driver had attended a party in the Khadakwasla area and was heading towards Swargate when his car struck the two vehicles.

Authorities are urging citizens to avoid drunk driving and adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies.
