Chennai: A 35-year-old man was apprehended by local residents after he returned to retrieve his mobile phone, which he had dropped while fleeing from an attempted sexual assault on an 80-year-old woman at her residence near Tiruvallur.
Incident Details
According to police, the elderly woman, a resident of Selai village near Tiruvallur, lives alone. On Saturday night, the accused, who was intoxicated, entered her house and attempted to sexually assault her while she was asleep. The woman woke up and fought back, striking him with a stick.
Unable to withstand her resistance, the accused fled the scene. However, during his escape, he accidentally dropped his mobile phone. Hearing the commotion, the woman's relatives and neighbors rushed to her aid.
Return and Capture
A few minutes later, the accused returned to the area in search of his phone. The woman's relatives and neighbors caught him, beat him, and handed him over to the Tiruvallur Taluk police. Police have detained the accused and are conducting further investigations.
