Neemuch Police ASI's Drunken Rampage Leaves Trail of Death and Injury

In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through Madhya Pradesh, an allegedly inebriated police officer caused a fatal accident in Neemuch, resulting in two deaths and leaving four others, including a woman and children, critically injured. The accused, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Manoj Yadav, was arrested on Saturday afternoon after he fled the scene of the Friday night carnage.

A Family Shattered, A Teacher Lost

The tragedy unfolded on the Neemuch-Jaora road when ASI Yadav's SUV, reportedly speeding out of control, collided head-on with multiple vehicles coming from the opposite direction. The violent impact instantly claimed the life of Dashrath Bawri, a 42-year-old teacher at Gyanodaya ITI College, who was riding a motorcycle with his family.

His wife, Lalita Bai (35), their 10-year-old son Harshit, and their six-year-old daughter Jaya sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, doctors had to amputate young Harshit's legs to save his life. The SUV also struck another man, Bhopal (44), who was on a separate motorcycle, critically injuring him as well.

Protest Erupts as Drunk Driving Allegations Surface

Eyewitnesses and subsequent investigations pointed to drunk driving as the primary cause of the accident. According to reports, ASI Yadav was heavily intoxicated and could not stand properly after exiting his vehicle. Liquor bottles were recovered from his SUV, and he has been sent for a medical examination to confirm the allegations.

The devastating loss triggered massive outrage among the local community. Family members of the deceased teacher and other locals staged a protest at the district hospital, refusing to accept Dashrath Bawri's body. The sit-in continued until administrative officials, including SDM Sanjeev Sahu, intervened and assured the family of strict action against the errant officer.

Administrative Action and Relief Announced

In the aftermath, the Neemuch Police acted swiftly by suspending ASI Manoj Yadav from his duties. The administration also announced immediate relief measures to support the grieving family. An immediate relief of ₹50,000 from the Red Cross fund was sanctioned, and proposals are being prepared to provide ₹5 lakh from the CM’s Relief Fund under the Sambal Yojana.

This tragic incident underscores the deadly consequences of drunk driving and has ignited a fresh debate on the need for stricter enforcement of road safety laws, even for those entrusted with upholding the law.
