In a shocking incident of road rage, a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was brutally beaten to death by a group of wedding guests in the Aman Vihar area late Saturday night. The police have arrested one suspect, while three others remain at large.
Mob Violence Caught on Camera
A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a mob forcibly pulling the driver from his vehicle in the middle of the road. The Delhi Police received a distress call around 11:20 pm on Saturday reporting a fight near City Vatika, Shiv Chowk. Upon arrival, officers discovered the grim aftermath of a violent confrontation.
How a Traffic Dispute Turned Deadly
According to police officials, the conflict began when the DTC bus driver, identified as Vikas from Jhajjar, Haryana, found his path blocked by a wedding procession. The road was choked, and a car belonging to a wedding guest was stuck ahead of the bus. This led to a heated argument between the two drivers.
The situation escalated rapidly when the car driver allegedly called his relatives to the spot. They then launched a vicious assault on Vikas. A bystander named Suraj, who tried to intervene and help the driver, was also attacked by the violent group.
Fatal Injuries and Hospitalization
Vikas sustained severe injuries in the attack. The police team rushed both him and Suraj to SGM Hospital. Due to the critical nature of his wounds, Vikas was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The bus conductor, Umesh (36), also reported being injured in the incident.
Based on the statement provided by Umesh, the police have registered a case. The investigation is ongoing to apprehend the three remaining suspects who are currently fugitives.
Union Protests and Demands for Justice
The tragic killing has sparked outrage. The DTC Employees' Unity Union staged a protest, demanding immediate justice for Vikas. The union has put forth two primary demands:
- A compensation of ₹1 crore for the driver's bereaved family.
- Strict and swift legal action against all the accused involved in the murder.
The incident highlights the extreme dangers of road rage and mob violence on Delhi's streets, leaving a family devastated and a workforce demanding safer working conditions.
