NEW DELHI: Police have arrested a man and his wife in connection with the murder of Dr Debosmita Paul, a 42-year-old assistant professor at Delhi University's Shivaji College. The couple, who were known to the victim, allegedly killed her over a property dispute in her apartment in New Ashok Nagar.
Incident Details
The couple reportedly brought a child with them to the victim's residence. They left the child outside before entering the apartment and attacking the professor. Dr Paul was found dead in her home in Vasundhara Enclave, east Delhi, on Thursday. She lived alone in Satyam Apartment, while her parents resided nearby.
Police Response
Police received a PCR call at approximately 2:35 PM at New Ashok Nagar police station from the victim's sister, Devarati Paul, 49. She reported that her sister had been murdered. Devarati had been trying to reach Debosmita throughout the day, but her calls went unanswered. Concerned, she visited the apartment and found it locked from outside. After breaking the lock, she discovered her sister's body inside.
A police team arrived at the scene and found the victim on a bed with severe head injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest she was attacked with a blunt object. Injuries on her wrists indicate that a sharp-edged weapon may also have been used during the assault.
Motive and Arrests
Police have confirmed that the motive appears to be a property dispute. The arrested couple is known to the victim, and further investigations are ongoing.
