DU Teacher Barred for Clicking Student Photos in Exam

New Delhi: A teacher at a Delhi University college has been prohibited from entering the campus pending an investigation into allegations that he secretly photographed a woman student during an examination earlier this week. The college authorities have also seized his mobile phone, and he has been relieved from examination duties. Further action, which may include filing a police complaint, will be considered after the internal complaints committee (ICC) completes its probe, officials stated.

Investigation and Immediate Actions

The ICC has been directed to submit its report within seven days, by June 20. The college administration said that subsequent measures would be implemented based on the committee’s recommendations.

The principal confirmed that after receiving a complaint from the student, the administration examined CCTV footage from the venue and allegedly found evidence of the teacher, who was on invigilation duty, taking photographs. “Accordingly, his phone was checked and confiscated. Upon examining the phone, several such photographs were found,” the principal told TOI.

Incident Details

The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday while the student was taking an examination held in the college canteen. According to officials, another student noticed the teacher allegedly photographing the complainant and informed her. The matter was subsequently brought to the principal’s attention and referred to the ICC.

When asked why the examination was conducted in the canteen, the principal explained that the arrangement was made to provide students with an air-conditioned space amid soaring temperatures. “The canteen has air-conditioning facilities, which is why it was being used as an examination venue,” he said.

Clarification on Suspension

Refuting reports of suspension, the principal clarified that any such decision would be taken only after placing the matter before the governing body and following due process. “He has been placed under a campus ban to ensure his safety as well as students on the campus are agitated following the incident,” he said.

TOI reached out to the ICC convener for comment but received no response.
