A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by three youths, in northwest Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area on Saturday night, according to police officials. The victim, identified as Narayan Dutt, worked as an e-rickshaw driver and resided in Gupta Colony, Prahladpur.
Incident Details
Police received information about the stabbing at Mahadev Chowk in Shahbad Dairy. A team was immediately dispatched to the scene and later traced the injured man to MV Hospital in Pooth Khurd, where he had been admitted. Narayan Dutt had sustained multiple injuries and was declared unfit to provide a statement by doctors. He was subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Video Surfaces on Social Media
A video of the incident surfaced on social media, showing the victim lying on the road with a knife lodged in his back as bystanders gathered around him. The footage has been used by police in their investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
During the probe, police scanned CCTV footage from the area and identified three boys attacking the victim. An initial case was registered under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Shahbad Dairy police station. After the victim's death, section 103 (murder) was added to the FIR.
Police formed teams to analyze CCTV footage and track down the accused. One of the alleged assailants, identified as 20-year-old Suraj, a resident of a jhuggi cluster in Shahbad Dairy, has been apprehended. Efforts are underway to locate the other two suspects.
The motive behind the attack is under investigation. Further details are awaited as police continue their inquiries.
