ECIL Engineers to Inspect EVMs After Alipore Fire, Says EC Official
ECIL Engineers to Inspect EVMs After Alipore Fire

Kolkata: Engineers from Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) will examine each EVM to assess the impact of the fire after the police and forensics department hand over the 10th floor of the New Administrative Building at Alipore to the district administration, a senior EC official said on Saturday.

"Now the building is under the control of the police and forensics. They need to hand it over to the DEO, South 24 Parganas, first. Then ECIL engineers will check the EVMs to assess damage, if any," the official stated, while adding the EC team only saw the EVMs from a distance, but they were not allowed to touch it on Friday.

He, however, said that apparently it seemed that some EVMs could have been damaged in the fire. Around 3,000 EVMs were stored on the 10th floor of the building. On Friday, forensics team collected samples from the building and the EC officials also inspected the floor where EVMs were reportedly gutted in the blaze. According to EC sources, no probe was done on their part on Saturday.
