Satyabrata Kumar, the former Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer who probed high-profile cases involving fugitive businessmen Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya, has taken voluntary retirement. Kumar, a 2004-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of the Customs and Indirect Taxes cadre, was serving as Commissioner (Appeals) in West Bengal's Siliguri after being repatriated from the ED exactly a year ago.

During his tenure at the ED, Kumar played a key role in investigating money laundering cases linked to Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya, both of whom are wanted in India for financial crimes. His work contributed to the agency's efforts to bring back economic offenders from abroad.
