The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids at the residence of a Congress leader in Tarn Taran district, Punjab. The search operation, which began early in the morning, is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities and money laundering cases linked to the leader.
Details of the Raid
According to sources, the ED team arrived at the leader's home in a village near Tarn Taran city around 6 am. The premises were cordoned off, and the search continued for several hours. Officials seized electronic devices, documents, and other materials for further examination.
Political Reactions
The Congress party condemned the raid, calling it a politically motivated move by the central government to harass opposition leaders. Party workers gathered at the spot, leading to a tense situation. However, the ED officials maintained that the action was purely based on evidence and due process.
This is not the first time that the ED has targeted political figures in Punjab. Earlier this year, raids were conducted on properties linked to several leaders from different parties. The agency is investigating multiple cases of alleged corruption and money laundering in the state.
The local police provided security during the raid, and no untoward incident was reported. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
