Chandigarh: The Sector 39 police have arrested eight men and detained a minor in connection with an attempted murder that occurred during a birthday party in Sector 56. A heavily armed gang stormed the celebration, attacking guests with knives, swords, and clubs, leaving one man critically injured. Police have recovered several clubs and a knife used in the assault.
Details of the Incident
The attack took place late Wednesday night while the complainant, Rohit, was celebrating his brother-in-law's birthday in a local park. At around 10pm, a group of roughly 15 men launched a sudden, coordinated ambush on the gathering. When a guest named Ricky attempted to intervene and defuse the situation, the assailants turned on him, inflicting severe wounds that required emergency admission to GMCH, Sector 32.
Police Investigation
A special police task force tracked down the suspects within 24 hours of the incident. Investigators are currently treating the ambush as a fallout of an ongoing street rivalry and gang factionalism within the neighborhood. A local court has granted detectives a one-day remand to interrogate two of the primary accused, Harpreet "Shiva" Singh and Krish. Police are working to identify the remaining fugitives and recover the broadswords used in the clash.
Criminal Background
Records reveal that Singh is a habitual offender with a history of assault, bootlegging, and homicide charges. The police are continuing their investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.
