Eight-Member Gang Hacks Two Youths to Death in Chennai House Attack
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the city, an armed eight-member gang stormed a house in Tirusulam, located opposite Chennai International Airport, and brutally hacked two youths to death in the early hours of Monday. The attack occurred in a rented residence where the victims were sleeping, highlighting the brazen nature of the crime.
Victims Identified and Attack Details
Police have identified the victims as Arumugam, 20, and Sathish, 18, both hailing from Mudichur. According to initial reports, the gang arrived on three motorcycles and an autorickshaw, forcefully breaking the door open to gain entry. Armed with machetes and sickles, they launched a vicious assault on the two youths, repeatedly attacking them. The violence was so severe that Arumugam's face was disfigured beyond recognition, underscoring the brutality of the attack.
Public Response and Police Action
Hearing the victims' screams, nearby residents rushed to the spot in an attempt to intervene. However, the attackers brandished their weapons, threatening the public and forcing them to retreat before fleeing the scene. This incident caused significant panic in the busy residential locality near the airport, an area typically bustling with workers, drivers, and residents even during late-night and early-morning hours.
Upon being alerted by the public, policemen from Pallavaram swiftly arrived at the scene. The bodies were recovered and sent to Tambaram Government Hospital for postmortem examination. In their investigation, police are questioning Mani, the owner of the house where the victims were staying, and reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to gather more evidence.
Criminal Histories and Investigation Progress
Police sources have revealed that Arumugam had a long criminal history, with around 30 cases registered against him, including the murder of a political functionary in Sunguvarchatram last year. He reportedly had previous enmity with another history-sheeter named Deepak, and had received death threats after he and his associates attacked Deepak. This background suggests that the attack may be linked to ongoing criminal rivalries.
So far, eight suspects have been arrested, while police believe that around 12 people may have been involved in the murders, with four possibly absconding. Special police teams have been formed to trace the remaining suspects, and the exact motive behind the killings is still under investigation. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.
