In a shocking incident that has rattled the Shahdara neighbourhood, an elderly couple was discovered dead inside their residence under mysterious circumstances in the early hours of Sunday. The Delhi Police have not ruled out the possibility of an insider or a family member's involvement in the grim event.
The Midnight Discovery and Police Response
The sequence of events began when a PCR call was received at the MS Park police station around 12:30 am on Sunday. The caller, later identified as Vaibhav Bansal, informed the authorities that his parents were lying unconscious and he suspected they were dead. Police teams rushed to the scene at the couple's home in Ram Nagar Extension, Shahdara.
Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of Virender Kumar Bansal, 75, a retired teacher, and his wife Parvesh Bansal, 65, a housewife, in separate rooms on the third floor of the house. Their son, Vaibhav, who works as a gym trainer, told the police that someone had killed his parents.
Visible Injuries and Forensic Examination
Initial observations by the police revealed signs of violence. Virender Kumar Bansal had visible injuries on his face, while preliminary assessment indicated that Parvesh Bansal appeared to have been strangled. The scene was immediately secured for a detailed forensic investigation.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was summoned to the spot. The area was thoroughly examined and photographed to collect crucial evidence. Following the on-site procedures, both bodies were sent to a hospital mortuary for preservation and to conduct a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide definitive details about the cause and time of death.
Investigation Points to Multiple Angles
While the precise motive behind the double murder remains unclear, senior police officials are exploring all possibilities. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam stated that while the investigation is in its preliminary stages, the possibility of robbery has not been ruled out. However, the nature of the incident has led investigators to strongly suspect the role of someone familiar with the house or the family.
"While the exact motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, police officials said that the possibility of robbery cannot be ruled out. Investigators are probing the case from all angles. The investigation is currently in progress," DCP Gautam confirmed. The police are likely to question family members, domestic help, and acquaintances to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.
The case has sent a wave of concern through the local community, raising questions about the safety of elderly residents living alone or with family. The Delhi Police's Shahdara district team continues its probe, hoping forensic evidence and witness statements will soon shed light on this heartbreaking crime.
