Elderly Couple Found Dead in Hazaribag Village, Police Probe Mysterious Circumstances
In a tragic and perplexing incident, an elderly couple was discovered dead inside their ancestral home in Babu Para village, located within the Hazaribag district of Jharkhand, on Monday. The deceased have been identified as 80-year-old Wakil Ram and his 60-year-old wife, Jhunia Devi. The couple resided alone in their house, with villagers describing them as cordial individuals who had no known conflicts or enmities with anyone in the community.
Discovery of the Incident
The unsettling discovery was made when local residents noticed an unusual silence emanating from the couple's residence during the morning hours. Concerned by the lack of activity, they entered the premises and found both Wakil Ram and Jhunia Devi lying lifeless inside. According to sources, Wakil Ram was physically challenged, which adds a layer of vulnerability to the case. The absence of any signs of forced entry or major ransacking inside the house has deepened the mystery surrounding their deaths.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
Barkagaon police station officer-in-charge Krishna Kumar Gupta, along with a team, promptly cordoned off the area to secure the crime scene. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar also visited the village to oversee the investigation. The bodies were transported to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death. Police have recovered a blood-stained axe and some clothing from the house of one of the couple's relatives, though the significance of these items is still under scrutiny.
In a concerning development, the couple's son, Ramvilas Das, who works as a school teacher and lives away from the village in a town area, reported that his mother's gold earrings are missing. This detail has prompted police to explore potential theft motives. Villagers informed authorities that a theft had occurred at the couple's home just a few days prior, involving jewellery and cash valued at approximately Rs 90,000. A case was registered at Barkagaon police station regarding this theft, but no arrests have been made so far.
Statements from Authorities and Ongoing Probe
Officer Krishna Kumar Gupta emphasized that the investigation is being conducted from multiple angles. "We are examining the case from all perspectives. It would not be appropriate to make any definitive statements at this early stage. Important clues have been collected from the spot, and technical evidence is currently being analysed," he stated. Forensic experts were called to the scene to gather additional evidence, aiming to piece together the events leading to the couple's demise.
The lack of visible struggle or forced entry suggests that the assailant might have been someone familiar to the family or aware of their daily routines. "Everything looked almost normal inside the house," remarked a local resident, highlighting the eerie nature of the incident. Police are considering all possibilities, including robbery, personal disputes, or other motives, as they work to unravel this complex case.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock, awaiting answers from the authorities. The police have assured that they are diligently pursuing all leads to bring clarity and justice to this heartbreaking situation.
