Elderly couple found dead in Jharkhand's Gumla

Gumla: A couple who worked as labourers were found dead in their rented home in Gumla late on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Birsu Tirkey, 62, and his wife Bisri, 58. They lived in the Dunduria locality and were originally from Pathi village under Sadar police station limits, according to police.

Postmortem examination conducted

Dr Anupam Kishore, deputy medical superintendent of Gumla Sadar Hospital, stated that postmortem examinations were performed on Wednesday and the report is awaited.

Neighbours raised suspicion

Locals became suspicious when the couple did not emerge from their house until late evening. Neighbours broke in and found Birsu and Bisri lying unconscious on the floor with foam coming out of their mouths. Police were informed and arrived at the scene. Bisri had already died by then, while Birsu was declared dead at Gumla Sadar Hospital.

Investigation underway

Gumla Subdivisional police officer Suresh Prasad Yadav said the deaths are being investigated from all possible angles. The cause of death will be determined after the postmortem report arrives.

This incident has shocked the local community. The couple had been living in the rented home for several years and were known to be hardworking labourers. Authorities are exploring all possibilities, including accidental poisoning or health-related issues.
