Noida: An elderly couple, aged 86 and 83, was rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out on the balcony of their flat in Noida's Sector 49 late Thursday night. The couple was taken to a nearby hospital after inhaling significant amounts of smoke; they are reported to be in stable condition. The fire was extinguished within an hour.
Fire Incident Details
Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Pradeep Kumar Chaubey stated that the fire control room received a report of the blaze on the fourth floor of an apartment complex around 9:30 pm. Multiple fire units and police from the Sector 49 station were dispatched to the scene. News of the fire spread quickly through the complex, causing panic among residents. Many occupants rushed out of their homes and gathered in open areas as thick smoke began spreading through parts of the building.
Rescue Operation
Rescue teams discovered that the couple was trapped inside their flat and could not evacuate without assistance. The apartment was locked from the inside and had become heavily filled with smoke, creating a life-threatening situation. Firefighters used hydraulic equipment and other specialized tools to cut through the apartment door, gaining access and successfully rescuing the couple. Following evacuation, they were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and first aid. Doctors later confirmed that their condition was stable and they were out of danger.
Investigation Underway
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, officials said.
