An elderly couple from Kottarakkara, Kerala, continues to endure significant distress while stranded in Kuwait as regional tensions escalate. Idikkula Kochumman, aged 81, and his wife Rosamma Kochumman, 69, have faced a series of abrupt disruptions since their travel plans were derailed by the closure of airspace in the Gulf region.
Sudden Relocation and Lost Belongings
In the early hours of Monday night, the couple received urgent instructions to prepare for an immediate transfer to a different hotel. "We got very little time to collect our belongings and rush to the reception. They asked us to come to the reception in 20 minutes. I forgot to take the charger of my mobile phone in the rush," recounted Rosamma Kochumman. This sudden move has left them without their four-piece baggage, which contains essential items including their medications and clothing.
Sleepless Nights Amid Military Activity
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has directly impacted their stay, with the couple reporting severe sleep deprivation due to continuous auditory disturbances. "We can't sleep because of the sound of sirens and of the interception of drones throughout the night," Rosamma explained. The persistent military actions, including missile strikes and aerial defenses, have created an environment of constant anxiety and unrest.
Background of the Stranding Incident
The couple was originally traveling to London to visit their daughter when their journey was abruptly interrupted. After boarding a connecting flight in Kuwait, they were informed that the flight had been canceled following the sudden closure of airspace across the Gulf region. This forced them to disembark and seek temporary accommodation, leading to their current predicament.
"The crisis is not over yet. We just want our baggage. The rest, God knows," Rosamma stated, highlighting their primary concern amidst the broader geopolitical turmoil. With no immediate resolution in sight, the couple remains hopeful for the return of their personal effects while navigating the uncertainties of the ongoing international conflict.
