A 70-year-old man, Sukhdev Singh, died on Wednesday from injuries sustained while intervening in a village land dispute at Bonkar Gujjran on May 22. The assailants had rammed a tractor into him before attacking him with spades and sticks. He died during hospital treatment in Ludhiana.
Allegations of Police Inaction
Alleging police inaction, the septuagenarian's family is refusing to perform the funeral until arrests are made. Koom Kalan's station house officer (SHO), inspector Madhu Bala, stated that murder charges will now be added to the existing cross-cases following the post-mortem examination.

The incident occurred on May 22 when Sukhdev Singh tried to mediate in a land dispute in Bonkar Gujjran. The attackers reportedly used a tractor to ram him, then assaulted him with spades and sticks. He was rushed to a hospital in Ludhiana, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Inspector Madhu Bala confirmed that the post-mortem report will be used to file additional murder charges against the accused. The family, however, remains unsatisfied and has demanded immediate arrests before conducting the last rites.
