Elderly Man Found Dead at Chennai Flower Shop

Chennai: An elderly man was found dead with multiple injuries at a flower shop in Medavakkam on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Karuppaiah, 77, a native of Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district.

Police said Karuppaiah had been working for the past two months at a flower shop located at the Medavakkam-Mambakkam Main Road junction and used to stay at the shop during the night.

On Sunday morning at around 9:30 am, the shop owner, Manoharan, arrived to open the shop and found Karuppaiah lying dead with bleeding injuries on his body. He immediately alerted the police control room.

Personnel from Medavakkam police station rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Tambaram government hospital for postmortem. During preliminary inquiry, the shop owner informed police that when he visited the shop around 10:30 pm on Saturday, Karuppaiah was seen in the company of a man identified as John. Police are now questioning the suspect as part of the investigation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, as Karuppaiah was known to be a quiet and hardworking individual. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
