PRAYAGRAJ: A routine morning walk turned tragic in the Colonelganj area on Saturday when a 70-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle, according to police reports.
Incident Details
The incident occurred around 7 am at the Lalla Chungi crossing, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Colonelganj police station, as confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Colonelganj) Vimal Kishore Mishra.
The victim has been identified as Ram Dulare Koiri, a resident of Shivkuti. He was standing at the crossing when the two attackers arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at him, the ACP stated.
Following the attack, Ram Dulare was rushed to the SRN Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Investigation Underway
Mishra revealed that the police have obtained footage from CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene, and the identity of the attackers has been established. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend them, he added.
The motive behind the killing will become clearer after the accused are arrested and interrogated, the ACP noted.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination after the completion of legal formalities, police said.
