Elderly Man Seeks Justice from CM Over Property Fraud

An 81-year-old resident of Bhowanipore in Kolkata approached Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during the Janatar Darbar on Monday, seeking justice after allegedly being cheated of his property by a promoter now in Enforcement Directorate custody. The elderly man, Prabir Mukherjee, claimed he was also threatened at gunpoint. The CM assured him of state government intervention.

CM Meets 105 People on Second Day

On the second day of the Janatar Darbar, Adhikari met with 105 individuals. Mukherjee, accompanied by his daughter, arrived early at the BJP's Salt Lake office and waited outside. He stated, "I have a house on Townshend Road. We gave the land to the promoter, Joy Kamdar, a few years ago to develop a property there. Kamdar was to hand over a flat to us. I never knew that he would turn out to be a devil."

Promised Flats Not Delivered

Mukherjee and his siblings were promised flats after the property was developed. However, the developers never handed over the property. Instead, they demanded Rs 17 lakh for possession. Forced to live in rented accommodation, Mukherjee alleged that Kamdar threatened him at gunpoint, with arrested goon Sona Pappu and arrested DCP Santanu Sinha Biswas also present. "I want what they promised me. That is why I have come to meet the CM," Mukherjee said.

CM's Assurance

As Adhikari entered his office, he noticed the elderly man waiting outside and instructed party workers to bring him in. "The CM listened to me patiently and said that I would get justice," Mukherjee later recounted.

Hundreds Gather for Redressal

Hundreds from across the state had gathered near the BJP's Salt Lake office since Sunday night, hoping to meet Adhikari. Samaresh Maji, who took a fire department exam in 2018 for a fire operator post, arrived on Sunday night. "We are four candidates who took the exam. We were disqualified as the department changed some norms, and we were rejected on the grounds of a document mismatch," he said. Ashoknagar residents Ambika Bala and Sneha Roy also sought justice, having completed nursing training but still unemployed. Project assistants of Swami Vivekananda Karmasansthan Prakalpa met Adhikari as well. Jayanta Kar Mandal from Bhangar claimed, "We have been working since 2001. The project has virtually stalled since 2020. We are receiving neither a commission nor a salary." Over 500 people who could not meet Adhikari submitted applications to volunteers.
