Kanpur: In a tragic incident, Mohd Ghayas, a 32-year-old engineer and son of Congress leader Mohd Fazal Khan, was discovered hanging in a room at Aman Paradise Hotel in Saket Nagar on Saturday, according to police reports. The family has expressed strong suspicion that he was murdered and then his body was staged as a suicide. Authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Background of the Victim
Ghayas, a resident of Talaq Mahal, worked as an engineer at a private company in Delhi. Due to the work-from-home arrangement, he had been staying at his family home for the past six months. Family members stated that he left home on Friday evening, mentioning that he would be going out with friends and would not return for the night. They later learned that he had checked into a hotel in Saket Nagar.
Discovery of the Body
Police reported that a hotel staff member attempted to reach Ghayas in his room at around 11:30 am on Saturday. When there was no response despite repeated calls, the staff alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, police used a master key to open the door and found Ghayas hanging from a ceiling fan using a bedsheet.
Hotel manager Saurabh Kumar provided additional details, stating that Ghayas had arrived at the hotel with a woman on Friday evening. At approximately 7:30 pm, Ghayas left the hotel to drop the woman off and subsequently returned to his room. He had also ordered dinner online, indicating a seemingly normal evening.
Family's Suspicions
When family members arrived at the scene after being informed, they noted that Ghayas's feet were touching the bed, which led them to believe that he could not have hanged himself in that manner. They suspect foul play and allege that he was killed elsewhere and then his body was hung to simulate a suicide. The police have registered a case and are investigating all angles.
