Elderly Woman Found Dead in Periyasemur Home
The Erode North police have successfully cracked a brutal murder case that shocked the Periyasemur area, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old man accused of killing an elderly woman and stealing her gold chain.
According to police officials, the victim Kamala, 65, was found dead inside her house on Wednesday night with her throat slit. The gruesome discovery was made after her son Mahendra Senathipathi, who works as a manager in a private bank in Puducherry, grew concerned when his mother stopped answering his phone calls.
Police Investigation Unfolds
"Neighbors found her dead with her throat slit and immediately alerted us," stated a police officer involved in the case. The authorities quickly registered a case and began their investigation, determining that the motive behind the murder was robbery of the victim's gold chain.
District Superintendent of Police A Sujatha took charge of the investigation, forming five special teams dedicated to apprehending the murderer. The investigation teams conducted extensive inquiries, questioning more than 40 youths from outside the district who were staying and working in the area.
Police examined mobile phone records of several suspects during their probe. "We suspected Ramar's involvement in the murder as his mobile phone remained switched off after the crime," the officer revealed.
Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property
The breakthrough came when police traced the accused K Ramar, originally from Ramanathapuram, to Avinashi. Ramar had been living in the Periyasemur area for the past 15 days, where he was involved in selling textiles under a multi-level marketing scheme.
During interrogation, Ramar confessed to the crime, admitting that he murdered Kamala specifically to steal her gold chain. He revealed that he first struck the elderly woman on the head and then used scissors to slit her neck before making off with the precious jewelry.
Police successfully recovered the stolen gold chain weighing five sovereigns from the accused. The recovery of the stolen property provided crucial evidence in the case.
Following his arrest on Sunday, Ramar was produced before the court and has been lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody. The quick resolution of the case has brought some relief to the local community that had been disturbed by the violent crime.
