Erode Police Suspends Head Constable for Drunk Driving

The Erode district police have taken swift action against a head constable after a video of him driving an official vehicle recklessly under the influence of alcohol went viral on social media. Head constable Saravana Prakash, attached to the Thalavadi police station, was suspended from duty following the incident.

In the video clip, Prakash is seen swerving the vehicle dangerously on the Thudupathi–Kunnathur Road. The vehicle he was driving was assigned to an inspector. According to a police officer, Prakash consumed liquor and drove the vehicle in a disorderly manner. Fellow motorists recorded the incident and shared it online, prompting immediate departmental action.

Inquiry and Suspension

District Superintendent of Police D V Kiran Shruthi summoned the constable for an inquiry. During the inquiry, it was confirmed that Prakash had been drunk while driving the vehicle. The SP ordered his suspension from duty and directed his transfer to the armed reserve, said the officer.
