Ex-Army Subedar Faces FIR for Alleged Assault on Students in Bareilly School
Police in Uttar Pradesh have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 75-year-old former Army subedar for breach of peace following disturbing allegations of assault on students at an upper primary junior high school in Bhartaul village, Bareilly. The incident, which has sparked outrage, involves the accused, identified as Arvind Kumar Shrivastava, allegedly entering the school campus without permission and subjecting two Class VIII boys to severe physical abuse.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to reports, the event occurred on the afternoon of February 23. Shrivastava purportedly walked into the school during lessons and began quizzing students on general knowledge questions. When two boys failed to answer correctly, he is accused of hanging them upside down and repeatedly thrashing them. Principal Raseed Bano stated that the ex-serviceman first assaulted several students before singling out the two victims for further violence.
In addition to the assault, the principal alleged that Shrivastava misbehaved with female teachers and displayed inappropriate conduct towards schoolgirls. A local resident, Ram Kumar Singh, who knows the accused, confirmed that Shrivastava, who retired from the Army, entered the classroom uninvited and started interrogating the children.
Further Complaints and Allegations
The case has expanded with additional complaints filed against Shrivastava. The father of one of the assaulted students reported that the accused not only attacked his son on school premises but later visited their home and behaved indecently with his wife. In a separate allegation, it is claimed that on February 24, Shrivastava stopped a schoolgirl on her way to school and attempted to coerce her into visiting his house for tuition, leaving the child terrified.
Authorities have taken note of the severity of these accusations. Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Dr. Vinita, announced that a departmental probe has been ordered based on the principal's complaint. She emphasized that the investigation will focus on how an outsider was able to enter the school without authorization and that explanations will be sought from staff present during the incident.
Investigation and Response
Repeated attempts to contact Arvind Kumar Shrivastava for his side of the story have been unsuccessful, as he has not responded to inquiries. The police are actively investigating the FIR, which underscores concerns over student safety and school security protocols in the region.
This incident highlights broader issues of unauthorized access to educational institutions and the need for stricter measures to protect children from such threats. The community and authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the probe unfolds.
