Retired Army Personnel Gunned Down in Patna Over Land Dispute
In a shocking incident, miscreants shot and killed a retired Army personnel in the Manpur Bairiya area under the Gopalpur police station in Patna. The victim, identified as Tejnandan Rai, aged 45 and a resident of Ashok Nagar in Kankarbagh, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a private nursing home.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred on Thursday when Rai was overseeing the measurement of a plot of land he had purchased in 2005 from a local resident named Chokha Rai. According to police reports, Tejnandan was in the process of constructing a house on this plot, located near his existing residence. The land had recently been excavated using heavy machinery.
Around 2 PM, the accused arrived at the scene and fired multiple rounds at Tejnandan before fleeing on foot. Family members and local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died during treatment.
Police Investigation and Forensic Analysis
Upon receiving the information, City SP (East) Parichay Kumar, along with Sadar DSP-II Ranjan Kumar and their team, promptly arrived at the crime spot to initiate an investigation. A forensic team was also summoned to collect crucial evidence from the scene.
SP Parichay Kumar stated that some of the criminals involved have been identified. He explained, "The plot, which Tejnandan purchased in 2005, was bought from one of the individuals among the criminals who committed the murder. The accused had a shop situated just behind that plot, suggesting this could be the root cause of the land dispute. However, no prior information was provided to the police station by the family regarding any threats. The police are currently conducting raids to apprehend the suspects."
Eyewitness Accounts and Evidence Collection
Kumar further added, "Eyewitnesses informed the police that three individuals arrived and fired multiple shots. After being struck by the bullets, Tejnandan fell into the pit he had dug on his plot. The exact number of bullet wounds will be determined from the postmortem report. The forensic team was called to collect evidence, including bullet shells, to aid in the investigation."
The police are intensifying their efforts to solve this case, emphasizing the seriousness of crimes involving retired defense personnel. The community has expressed outrage over the incident, calling for swift justice and enhanced security measures in the area.
