A 23-year-old former domestic worker has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old IIT graduate in Delhi, police said on Wednesday. The suspect, identified as a native of Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody from Dwarka after a detailed investigation involving CCTV footage and mobile phone tracking.
How the Murder Unfolded
The victim, an IIT graduate working in the private sector, was found dead in his apartment in south Delhi earlier this month. Police said the accused had previously worked as a domestic help in the same building and used his knowledge of the layout to gain entry. The suspect allegedly attacked the victim during a robbery attempt, leading to fatal injuries.
Arrest and Evidence
Investigators used CCTV footage from the building and nearby areas to identify the suspect. Phone location data placed him at the crime scene around the time of the incident. He was tracked to Dwarka, where he was staying with relatives, and arrested without resistance.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and also revealed his involvement in a separate robbery case in Alwar, Rajasthan, where a similar modus operandi was used. Police have recovered stolen items from the Delhi murder, including a laptop and cash, from his possession.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are now preparing a detailed chargesheet, which will include forensic evidence and witness statements. Police are also probing whether the suspect has links to any other unsolved cases in the region. The victim's family has been informed, and they have demanded strict action against the accused.
The arrest brings some relief to the local community, which was shaken by the brazen nature of the crime. Police have urged residents to verify the background of domestic help and ensure proper security measures.
