Former Sarpanch Brutally Attacked in Dera Bassi Village, Suspected Targeted Assault

The attack occurred early in the morning while the victim was on his routine milk delivery round. At approximately 6 am, a group of nearly five youths, reportedly travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Swift car, intercepted him on the road. They launched a vicious assault using iron rods, which lasted for nearly 15 to 20 minutes. Despite the victim's attempts to surrender his mobile phone and belongings, the assailants continued the brutal attack, resulting in severe injuries, including the breaking of both his legs.
A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention and raising alarms about the safety of individuals in the area. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault, leaving the victim in a critical condition.
Police Response and Investigation
Police acted swiftly following the incident, registering an FIR and initiating a thorough probe. Dera Bassi sub-divisional police officer (SP) Bikramjit Singh Brar confirmed that the accused were arrested within hours of the attack. In a statement, SP Brar provided crucial details, indicating that the assault was linked to an ongoing monetary dispute related to the victim's dairy business.
The victim, in his statement to authorities, claimed he has no personal enmity with anyone but expressed grave concern over threats to his life. He has made an earnest appeal to the authorities for justice and protection, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures in the region.
