A shocking case of infidelity, murder, and manipulation has emerged from Karnataka, where a former soldier was killed for a Rs 2 crore insurance payout. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Manjunath, a retired army personnel, was found dead under suspicious circumstances near his home in Bengaluru rural district.
The Crime
According to police, Manjunath's wife, Shwetha, and her alleged lover, Praveen, conspired to murder him to claim the insurance money. The duo allegedly executed the plan on June 10, 2026, when Manjunath was returning from a walk. They staged the murder to look like a robbery gone wrong.
Investigation Details
Police initially treated it as a robbery case but grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in Shwetha's statements. Further investigation revealed that Shwetha had taken a Rs 2 crore life insurance policy on her husband just months before his death. Call records and CCTV footage linked her to Praveen, a local mechanic.
- The accused were arrested on June 15 after confessing to the crime.
- Police recovered the murder weapon and some of the insurance documents.
- The couple had been planning the murder for over a month.
Motivation and Manipulation
Shwetha reportedly manipulated her husband into taking the policy, claiming it was for their children's future. She then involved Praveen, promising him a share of the payout. The duo drugged Manjunath before killing him to ensure no struggle.
