In a significant development in Nandyal district, the Dhone police have registered a case against Excise Department Circle Inspector Vara Lakshmi and a local individual named Somnath. The action came after Somnath was caught red-handed transporting a large quantity of confiscated liquor bottles in his car.

Incident Details

According to Dhone DSP Srinivasulu, during routine vehicular checks near Chakirevumitta on Sunday night, police discovered 379 liquor bottles being illegally transported in a car driven by Somnath, a resident of PR Palli. Upon questioning, Somnath revealed that the bottles were confiscated stock seized by the excise department. He further stated that he was moving the liquor to be sold at local belt shops on the instructions of Dhone Excise CI Vara Lakshmi.

Police Investigation

When the Dhone police questioned Vara Lakshmi, she claimed ignorance and suggested that someone else from the excise department might be involved. However, after preliminary investigations confirmed her involvement, a case was registered against both Vara Lakshmi and Somnath. DSP Srinivasulu stated, "We will thoroughly investigate the case and get to the bottom of this confiscated liquor black marketing racket."
