Externed Criminal and Family Members Allegedly Assault Police Officers in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
A serious incident of violence against law enforcement has been reported from the Bhavsingpura area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. According to police officials, a 24-year-old externed criminal, along with several family members, allegedly launched a brazen attack on police personnel on Wednesday evening.
Violent Confrontation During Police Patrol
The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when a police patrolling team received specific intelligence that the externed criminal had returned to the Bhawsingpura locality. Police Sub Inspector Kakasaheb Nagawe stated that when officers approached the accused individual, he and his family members immediately began verbally abusing and threatening the police team.
The situation escalated rapidly as the accused reportedly seized the keys of a police vehicle and threatened the officers with dire consequences. According to Nagawe, the confrontation turned physically violent when additional police force arrived at the scene.
Serious Assault with Weapons and Physical Violence
Police reports indicate that the main accused attempted to assault one police officer with a knife during the confrontation. Simultaneously, family members of the accused allegedly bit the ear of another police personnel, causing injury.
The Cantonment police have registered a formal case against the 24-year-old externed criminal and six of his family members, including four women. The charges filed are comprehensive and serious, reflecting the gravity of the alleged offenses.
Multiple Charges Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
The accused individuals face prosecution under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 109: Attempt to murder
- Section 132: Using criminal force against a public servant
- Section 190: Unlawful assembly
- Section 351(2): Criminal intimidation
Additional charges have also been filed to cover the full scope of the alleged criminal conduct during the incident. The case highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining law and order, particularly concerning individuals with criminal backgrounds who have been externed from specific areas.
