Fake Income Tax Raid Thwarted in Wardha, Two Arrested in Bollywood-Style Scam
In a dramatic incident echoing the plot of the Bollywood film Special 26, two young men pretending to be income tax officers were apprehended by Ramnagar police on Tuesday afternoon while attempting a fraudulent raid in Wardha. The operation unfolded in a real-life twist that has left locals stunned and authorities on high alert.
The Elaborate Deception Unfolds
The events began around 2 PM on March 4 in the Sainagar area, where the accused, identified as Kisan Parbat and Chetan Chavan, arrived in a four-wheeler vehicle. Presenting themselves as Mumbai-based income tax officials, they claimed to possess a legitimate search warrant and adopted an authoritative tone to gain entry into the home of Chintaman Kongre, located in Shri Niwas Colony.
Once inside, the duo instructed the family to assemble all relevant documents, cash, and valuables for inspection. To add credibility to their charade, they even simulated recording the proceedings on a mobile phone, mimicking standard official protocols. Their confident demeanor initially misled the household, creating an atmosphere of compliance and fear.
Suspicion Leads to Swift Action
However, Chintaman's son, Suhas Kongre, grew suspicious of the irregularities in the officers' behavior and procedures. Acting quickly, he contacted acquaintances Shekhar Shende and Pravin Hivre for assistance. Together, they escorted the suspects to a local chartered accountant, Jagdish Chandak, for verification of their credentials and the purported search warrant.
During questioning, glaring inconsistencies emerged in the duo's claims, raising red flags about their authenticity. Alerted by sub-divisional officer Pramod Makeshwar and the police control room, officers rushed to the scene and detained Parbat and Chavan before transporting them to the station for further investigation.
