Family Assaulted by Doctors at Orai Medical College

Kanpur: Family members who accompanied a female patient to the Orai government medical college in Jalaun have alleged that they were assaulted by junior doctors on duty late Monday night after they asked staff to expedite treatment and had their area's legislator call the doctors.

CCTV Footage Shows Assault

CCTV footage of the incident surfaced, showing doctors and staff pushing and assaulting the family members. The incident took place at the medical college in the Orai Kotwali area.

Victim's Account

The victim, Brij Kishore Gupta, said that his daughter Smriti slipped and fell at home on Monday, resulting in serious injuries, after which the family took her to the medical college for treatment. It is alleged that doctors first asked them to get a registration slip even though the injured girl was in severe pain.

The family claimed that obtaining the slip took 15-20 minutes. During this time, they pleaded with staff to start treatment quickly, but no one listened. It is alleged that during this period, Gupta called BJP MLA Gauri Shankar Verma from Orai Sadar to inform him of the situation and sought help for the treatment.

Escalation After MLA's Call

According to the victim's family, medical college staff and junior doctors became upset after receiving the MLA's call. The injured girl's brother requested doctors to start preliminary treatment until the slip was made, but the doctors refused to treat without the slip. This led to an argument between both parties.

It is alleged that as the dispute escalated, the junior doctors and staff started assaulting the girl's brothers. Gupta alleged that when he tried to have the doctor speak with the MLA, his mobile phone was also damaged. After this, the main gate of the medical college was locked, and the commotion continued until late at night.

Police Response and Counter-Complaint

Upon receiving information about the incident, a large police force arrived at the scene. It is reported that around 300 medical students and doctors gathered at the site. Police and administrative officials tried to control the situation. However, a young man was injured in the scuffle and was admitted to the district hospital in Orai. The victim's family submitted a written complaint to the police, demanding action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, police stated that an investigation is underway. The entire incident will be examined based on CCTV footage, and further action will be taken after the investigation.

Kotwali in-charge, inspector Anand Kumar Singh, said that a complaint was filed by Dr. Aradhya Nagaich of the medical college. The complaint alleged that Brij Kishore Gupta and two unidentified individuals misbehaved, vandalised, and assaulted staff at the medical college. Police registered a case based on the doctor's complaint. A complaint letter was also submitted by Brij Kishore Gupta, which is being investigated. Further action will be taken based on CCTV footage and other evidence.
