A tragic road accident on the busy Ratlam-Indore four-lane highway claimed one life and left another person critically injured on Wednesday morning. The collision occurred when a van rammed into the rear of a truck near Sanawda Phanta, under the jurisdiction of the Salakhdi police outpost.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The severe accident took place around 7:30 am on Wednesday. According to police, the van was travelling behind a truck when it failed to slow down at a speed breaker. The impact was so intense that the front portion of the van was completely crushed, trapping both occupants inside the mangled vehicle.
Upon receiving information, police teams rushed to the spot. They worked to extricate the two injured men from the van and rushed them to Ratlam Medical College for urgent treatment. Unfortunately, doctors at the medical college declared one of the victims dead upon arrival. The other victim remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.
Police Investigation and Preliminary Findings
ASP Rakesh Khaka provided initial insights into the probable cause of the crash. The preliminary investigation suggests that the truck ahead reduced its speed while crossing a bump or speed breaker on the roadway. The van, which was approaching at a higher speed from behind, failed to slow down in time and crashed directly into the truck's rear.
Early inputs indicate that both men in the van were residents of Tal and were involved in the poultry trade. They were on their way to Ratlam for work when the tragedy struck. The police are in the process of formally confirming their identities and notifying their next of kin.
Aftermath and Road Safety Concerns
This fatal incident has once again highlighted the dangers on high-speed corridors, especially near speed calming measures. The accident caused significant disruption on the four-lane highway, a crucial link between Ratlam and Indore. Local authorities are likely to review the accident site to assess if additional safety signage or measures are required near the Sanawda Phanta area to prevent similar tragedies.
The police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events. The condition of the critically injured survivor is being closely monitored at Ratlam Medical College.
