Fatehabad Police Intercept Major Drug Shipment in Combine Harvester
In a significant operation targeting drug trafficking, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) team of Fatehabad police has made a major breakthrough. The authorities arrested one individual and confiscated a substantial quantity of opium and poppy husk, which was cleverly concealed within a combine harvester.
Swift Action Based on Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
According to police reports, the CIA in-charge, Sub-Inspector Vedpal, stated that the team was conducting routine patrols near the new bus stand area when they received credible intelligence about illicit drug movement. Acting promptly on the tip-off, the officers established a checkpoint, or naka, on the highway bypass. It was there that they intercepted a combine harvester that appeared suspicious.
Upon noticing the police presence, the driver of the vehicle attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended by the vigilant team. The arrested individual has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Phulera village in the Sangrur district of Punjab.
Massive Contraband Recovery Details
During a thorough search conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer to ensure procedural integrity, the police uncovered a significant cache of narcotics. From the cabin of the combine harvester, they recovered 1.018 kilograms of opium. Additionally, at the rear of the machine, they found 109.58 kilograms of poppy husk packed into three separate sacks.
The total haul, weighing over 110 kilograms, was immediately seized and sealed on the spot to preserve evidence. In addition to the drugs, the combine harvester itself and a motorcycle were also taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
Confession and Ongoing Investigation
During preliminary interrogation, the accused, Sukhwinder Singh, reportedly confessed to his involvement in the drug trade. He admitted to procuring the contraband from Madhya Pradesh with the intention of further distribution and supply across regions. This revelation has provided crucial leads for the authorities.
A formal case has been registered against the accused at the Fatehabad City police station under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is currently ongoing, with police efforts focused on identifying and apprehending other potential members of the drug trafficking network to dismantle it completely.
This operation underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating drug-related crimes and highlights the innovative methods traffickers employ, such as using agricultural machinery for concealment.
