Meerut police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting dead his 23-year-old son, whose body was discovered inside a car parked along a highway in Meerut. The accused, identified as Sunder Tyagi, was taken into custody along with his associate Amit alias Vedwan on Tuesday, while efforts to apprehend another suspect are ongoing.
Details of the Incident
According to investigators, Sunder Tyagi allegedly killed his son, Tushar Tyagi, over suspicions that Tushar had paid Rs 10 lakh to have him killed due to a family dispute. Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar stated that police received a Dial-112 call around midnight on June 1, reporting that a man had been shot dead and his body was lying inside a vehicle near the Panchi underpass in the Khar Khoda area.
A murder case was registered based on a complaint from the victim's wife, Shikha, prompting the formation of three special teams to investigate. Police analyzed CCTV footage, technical evidence, and other physical clues during the investigation.
Investigation Findings
The probe revealed that the main accused, Sunder Tyagi, traveled from Dehradun to Kankerkhera on the day of the incident and later moved toward the Kaili area with his associate. CCTV footage showed the victim's SUV and the accused's car moving together before the crime.
During questioning, it emerged that Sunder Tyagi was traveling in the victim's vehicle at the time of the incident and allegedly shot Tushar dead. The accused then abandoned the body and the vehicle near the Panchi underpass before fleeing the scene.
Motive and Background
Investigators revealed that Sunder Tyagi alleged that the victim frequently assaulted family members and suspected that Tushar had paid Rs 10 lakh as contract money to have him killed. Officials added that Sunder Tyagi is a former history-sheeter of Hapur Dehat police station and has several criminal cases, including murder, registered against him.
Further investigation is underway.
