A special Pocso court in Junnar, Pune, on April 7 sentenced a 39-year-old farmer to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his eight-year-old daughter. Special Judge SB Shelar held that the prosecution had sufficiently proved that the pious bond between the father and a daughter has been violated by the accused.
Details of the Incident
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on December 19, 2020, in a village in Junnar. At the time, the survivor was at home with her father and younger sibling. The prosecution alleged that the accused sexually assaulted his daughter and physically assaulted her when she resisted. She later disclosed the incident to relatives and her mother, following which a complaint was lodged at Otur police station.
Evidence and Conviction
The court relied on the victim's testimony, medical evidence, and forensic material while convicting the accused. The judgment records that the medical findings were consistent with sexual assault and also referred to injuries on the child's body. The court emphasized that the prosecution successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
This case highlights the importance of stringent legal action in cases of child sexual abuse. The life imprisonment sentence serves as a deterrent and reinforces the protection of children under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
