Wardha Court Hands Down Life Sentence in Shocking Patricide Case

A district court in Wardha has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his own son. The judgment, pronounced by District Judge-2 and Additional Sessions Judge SJ Ansari, marks the culmination of a harrowing case that exposed deep familial strife.

Conviction and Sentencing Details

Narayan Amanji Chavan was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the murder of his son, Vishal. The court not only imposed a life sentence but also levied a fine of Rs5,000. Failure to pay this fine will result in an additional one year of simple imprisonment, underscoring the gravity of the offense.

The Tragic Incident Unfolds

According to the prosecution, the events leading to the murder began on January 6, 2022. Vishal, who worked outside the town, withdrew Rs5,000 from a bank and gave the money to his mother. This act enraged Narayan Chavan, who was angered that the funds were not handed over to him directly.

Holding a grudge, the accused launched a violent attack on Vishal, striking him on the head with a stone pestle. The assault caused severe injuries, and Vishal collapsed in a pool of blood, dying instantly at the scene. The brutality of the crime sent shockwaves through the local community.

Background of Family Discord

Additional Public Prosecutor Vinay R Ghude presented evidence revealing a troubled family history. Narayan Chavan had previously abandoned his family to live with another woman. After her death, he returned home, where tensions escalated. It was documented that while intoxicated, he frequently abused and assaulted both his wife and son, creating a volatile household environment.

Confession and Investigation

Following the murder, the accused called his second son, Amol, and confessed, stating, "I have killed Vishal." When the complainant mother returned home that night, she discovered Vishal's lifeless body and immediately filed a complaint at the Ram Nagar police station.

Police Inspector Sanjay Mishra led the investigation, filing a chargesheet in offense number 53/2022 under IPC Section 302. The case relied heavily on the testimony of 11 witnesses, along with a chemical analysis report and medical evidence, which collectively painted a clear picture of the crime.

Court's Final Ruling

After thorough deliberation, the court found Narayan Chavan guilty based on the overwhelming evidence. The sentence was officially pronounced on February 5, 2026, bringing a measure of justice to the victim's family. This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the judicial system's commitment to upholding law and order in such tragic circumstances.
