Father Arrested for Alleged ₹2 Crore Insurance Murder Plot Against Son in Moradabad
Father held for supari killing of son in ₹2cr insurance plot

In a shocking case of greed and betrayal, a 50-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district was arrested on Friday for allegedly conspiring to have his own son murdered to fraudulently claim a massive insurance payout of ₹2 crore. The police stated that the father, identified as Baburam Sharma, was acting on the advice of an advocate who masterminded the sinister plan.

The Grisly Crime and Initial Cover-Up

The victim, 22-year-old Aniket Sharma, was found dead near a farm along a road in Moradabad district on November 16. Initially, his father Baburam insisted that his son had died in a road accident and even refused to file a formal police complaint. However, the official autopsy report told a different story, indicating that Aniket died from a "head injury due to an assault." This crucial finding prompted the police to launch a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.

As the probe intensified, Baburam's statements to the police kept changing. Under sustained questioning, he finally broke down and confessed to his role in the heinous crime. Following a complaint filed by Aniket's uncle, an FIR was registered under BNS section 103 (murder) in Moradabad.

The Chilling Conspiracy Unveiled

According to the police, Baburam Sharma confessed to personally handing over his son to contract killers for an alleged sum of ₹3.5 lakh. He lured Aniket on the pretext of taking him out. The hired assailants then allegedly assaulted him before inflicting a fatal blow to his head. To stage the murder as a hit-and-run accident, they dumped his body near the road and even ran a car over it to mislead the investigators.

Superintendent of Police, Moradabad (Rural), Kunwar Akash Singh, revealed the financial motive behind the crime. The total insurance policy was worth ₹2 crore, taken out in January 2024. Baburam was the nominee. However, the advocate who orchestrated the plan, identified as Adesh Kumar from Amroha, handled all the paperwork and premium payments. He allegedly deceived Baburam, telling him he would receive only ₹25 lakh if his son was "killed in an accident," while the advocate intended to keep the lion's share. Kumar assured Baburam that the insurance claim would be processed without any major hurdles.

Background and Ongoing Manhunt

Police investigations revealed that Baburam Sharma, who did part-time work in his village, had a criminal past and had been to prison on several occasions. He was often in financial distress, which made him an easy target for advocate Adesh Kumar's deadly scheme. "Baburam told the cops he conspired with the advocate to secure the life insurance claim," said a senior police officer familiar with the case.

Along with Baburam, three others directly involved in Aniket's killing have been arrested. However, the alleged mastermind, advocate Adesh Kumar, and another accused, Vijaypal, are currently on the run. A manhunt is underway to apprehend them.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, exposing a brutal plot where familial bonds were severed for monetary gain, engineered by a person expected to uphold the law.
