Father-in-Law Among Sword-Wielding Assailants in Brutal Mohali Attack

A shocking incident of violence unfolded on the busy PR-7 Airport Road in Mohali when a group of assailants, including the victim's own father-in-law, launched a brutal sword attack on a security guard. The assault left the guard with severe injuries and resulted in the theft of his licensed firearm before the attackers fled the scene.

Victim Identified as Private Gunman

The injured guard has been identified as Gurmukh Singh, a 52-year-old resident originally from Rajpura, Patiala, who currently lives in AKS Colony, Zirakpur. Singh serves as a private gunman at Krishna Jewellers located within Cosmo Mall, where he is responsible for security duties.

Timeline of the Violent Assault

According to police records, the attack occurred on January 25 at approximately 6:15 PM as Gurmukh Singh was traveling to work on his motorcycle. As he approached Army Dhaba on PR-7 Road, traffic congestion forced him to slow down, creating an opportunity for the assailants to surround him.

Police investigations have revealed that one of the primary attackers was none other than Singh's father-in-law, Sher Singh. Without any prior warning or provocation, the group allegedly launched their assault using swords, striking the victim multiple times on his head and arms.

Severe Injuries and Weapon Theft

The violent attack resulted in serious physical harm to Gurmukh Singh, including:

  • A fractured left arm requiring medical attention
  • Multiple deep cuts and wounds on his head and upper body
  • Significant blood loss from the sword injuries

Despite his critical condition, the assailants managed to snatch Singh's licensed 12-bore rifle before escaping from the crime scene. The theft of the firearm added a dangerous dimension to what initially appeared to be a robbery attempt.

Immediate Medical Response and Treatment

Alert bystanders who witnessed the attack quickly came to the victim's aid, rushing the severely injured guard to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector-32, Chandigarh. Medical professionals at the facility provided emergency treatment for his wounds, stabilizing his condition. After receiving necessary medical care, Gurmukh Singh was discharged from the hospital, though he continues to recover from the traumatic experience.

Police Investigation Reveals Family Dispute Motive

Contrary to initial assumptions of robbery, police investigations have uncovered that the attack stemmed from an ongoing family dispute. The conflict reportedly involved issues concerning Gurmukh Singh's wife, which allegedly prompted his father-in-law, Sher Singh, to orchestrate the violent assault.

Arrests and Recovery Efforts

Law enforcement authorities have made significant progress in the case, including:

  1. The arrest of prime accused Sher Singh, who has been produced before a court
  2. Remand of the accused in two days of police custody for further interrogation
  3. Recovery of the snatched 12-bore rifle that was stolen during the attack
  4. Ongoing raids to identify and apprehend the remaining accomplices involved in the assault

The police continue their investigation to determine the complete sequence of events and ensure all perpetrators face appropriate legal consequences for their actions.
