Fazilka Court Delivers Life Sentences in 2021 Wife Murder Case
A district court in Fazilka has handed down life imprisonment sentences to three individuals, including the victim's husband, for the brutal murder of a woman in 2021. The court also imposed significant financial penalties and mandated state support for the deceased's orphaned children.

The case revolves around the death of Usha Rani, who was found strangled in Turkawali village on November 17, 2021. Police investigations uncovered a disturbing motive: her husband, Makhan Singh, a serving Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair with another woman, Binder Kaur.
According to the prosecution, Makhan Singh conspired with Binder Kaur and her brother, Nikka Singh, to murder his wife. The plot culminated in Usha Rani's killing, leaving behind two young children.
Court Verdict and Sentencing
After a protracted legal battle spanning nearly five years, the Fazilka court convicted all three accused. The sentences include:
- Life imprisonment for Makhan Singh, Binder Kaur, and Nikka Singh.
- A fine of Rs 60,000 each, payable to the state.
In a significant ruling, the court also directed the provision of state-level facilities for the upbringing and welfare of Usha Rani's two children, ensuring their care and support in the absence of their parents.
Family's Reaction and Legal Proceedings
The victim's brother, Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Naya Salemshah village, expressed relief and gratitude for the verdict. "We finally received justice from the court after a wait of five years," he stated. Sukhwinder Singh had initially lodged a police complaint following his sister's murder in 2021, which led to the arrest of the accused and subsequent trial.
Rajinder Chuchra, the lawyer representing the complainant, highlighted the court's emphasis on the children's welfare. "The court ruled in favour of providing state-level facilities for the upbringing and care of the victim's children, which is a crucial aspect of this judgment," he explained.
