Fazilka-Delhi Train Passengers Targeted in Brazen Knifepoint Robbery
In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns about passenger safety, travelers on the Fazilka-Delhi train were allegedly looted at knifepoint in the early hours of Friday. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of miscreants boarded the train around 2:30 am and carried out a series of robberies, targeting both men and women. The brazen attack has since gone viral on social media, amplifying public outrage and demands for swift justice.
Eyewitness Recounts Terrifying Ordeal
Sukhdayal Chand, a driver with the Fazilka fire brigade department who was on board, provided a detailed account of the harrowing experience. He reported that the train departed from Fazilka at 2:05 am, and shortly after, four young men armed with knives confronted passengers. "I was robbed by these individuals who showed no hesitation in using threats and violence," Chand stated, highlighting the fear that gripped the compartment.
Another passenger described how the situation escalated when the train stopped at Bariwala station. The miscreants allegedly began abusing women without provocation, and when resisted, they turned aggressive, leading to physical altercations. One victim from Sri Muktsar Sahib revealed that the robbers stole approximately Rs 10,000 in cash, a gold chain, and his wife's earrings, among other valuables. He emphasized that he was not only robbed but also assaulted during the incident, underscoring the brutality of the attack.
Similar Incidents Highlight Pattern of Crime
This is not an isolated case, as a similar robbery was reported on the Rajpura-Bathinda-Fazilka-bound train just a day earlier, on Thursday morning. In that incident, four unidentified assailants assaulted and robbed a young man traveling from Bathinda to Fazilka. The victim, identified as Rajveer Singh from Muktsar, filed a formal complaint with the GRP police, detailing how the miscreants targeted him in a nearly empty compartment.
Rajveer Singh recounted that after most passengers had disembarked, the four men sat next to him and attempted to steal his mobile phone. When he resisted, one of them slapped him, and they proceeded to take around Rs 1,500 in cash from his pocket. "The compartment was almost empty by then, making it easier for them to act without fear of immediate intervention," he explained, pointing to a pattern of criminals exploiting low-occupancy trains.
Appeals for Police Action and Enhanced Security
In response to these alarming events, Sukhdayal Chand has urgently appealed to the Fazilka, Ferozepur, and Bathinda police departments to take cognizance of the matter and arrest the culprits at the earliest. "We demand justice and stricter security measures on our trains to prevent such crimes in the future," he asserted, echoing the sentiments of many affected passengers.
The repeated nature of these robberies suggests a systemic issue that requires immediate attention from railway authorities and law enforcement.
