A 31-year-old woman from Feroke in Kozhikode district has died after a brutal assault by her husband, leading police to invoke murder charges against the accused. The victim, Muneera, daughter of Cherammal Thodi Khader, passed away early on Sunday while on ventilator support at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital.
Details of the Brutal Assault
The horrific incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the residence of her husband, Abdul Jabbar (40), a resident of Makkat Kambilippuram. According to police reports, the attack unfolded when Muneera was preparing to leave for her job at a supermarket in Paruthippara. Jabbar allegedly demanded money from her. When she stated she had none, a heated argument broke out.
In a fit of rage, Jabbar is accused of forcing his wife into a room, locking the door, and then attacking her repeatedly with a machete. The assault left Muneera with severe, life-threatening injuries on her neck, head, ear, and back.
Neighbours Rush to Help, But It's Too Late
The violent attack did not go unnoticed. The desperate screams of the couple's two young daughters, aged eight and five, and Jabbar's mother alerted neighbours. They rushed to the scene and managed to intervene. Finding Muneera bleeding profusely, they immediately took her to the hospital for urgent medical care.
She battled for her life for five days in the hospital but ultimately succumbed to her extensive injuries in the early hours of Sunday. The Feroke police, who had initially arrested Jabbar on charges of attempted murder, have now upgraded the case to murder following Muneera's death.
A History of Violence and a Troubled Marriage
This was not the first instance of violence in the couple's relationship. Investigations revealed a disturbing pattern. A year ago, the Kondotty Police had registered a case against Jabbar based on an earlier assault complaint filed by Muneera. Their marriage had been strained to the point where they had nearly separated. However, they had later decided to resume living together.
The tragic outcome highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and the critical need for effective intervention. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community in Feroke, near Farook College, raising urgent questions about women's safety and legal protection.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the accused husband remains in custody. The couple's two young daughters are now left without their mother, facing an unimaginable tragedy stemming from domestic brutality.
